The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has released its annual corruption report for 2022/2023, highlighting bribery, embezzlement, and fraudulent acquisition of public property as the most common vices, accounting for 31%, 19%, and 12% of cases respectively. The report reveals that 97 cases of corruption and economic crimes have been completed and forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), with 214 cases still pending in court. Additionally, the EACC has recovered assets worth Ksh.3.8 billion through court proceedings and out-of-court settlements, and has filed 62 recovery suits valued at Sh8.7 billion. Notable recoveries include Sh3.2 billion worth of public land in Eldoret, with properties linked to prominent families and former politicians in the Kanu government. The EACC completed 40 cases of illegally acquired and unexplained assets worth Sh6.6 billion and is pursuing additional properties worth Sh7 billion. The EACC is also proposing changes to the anti-corruption law.
