The High Court has ordered the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to respond by August 29, 2025, to a petition seeking criminal charges against Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat in connection with the death of teacher Albert Ojwang. Lagat, who has been identified as a person of interest in the case, has denied any involvement and argued that only the DPP has the authority to charge him, not the court. The petition was filed by 20 complainants who demand that Lagat be charged with murder. The court has also warned the DPP and the Attorney General over delays in addressing the prosecution petition. Lagat has moved to block the murder case, maintaining that the accusations are unfounded and harmful to his reputation.
