Interpol has led a major cybercrime crackdown across 18 African countries, resulting in the arrest of 1,209 cybercriminals as part of Operation Serengeti 2.0. The coordinated effort, which also involved the United Kingdom and nine security organizations, targeted a range of illegal activities including cryptocurrency fraud, ransomware, and illicit crypto mining. Authorities dismantled over 11,400 malicious online infrastructures and recovered approximately $97.4 million. The operation uncovered a $300 million fraud scheme in Zambia affecting 65,000 victims through fake software-as-a-service applications, while Angola seized $37 million by shutting down 25 illegal crypto mining centers. This crackdown highlights increasing global coordination to combat cybercrime on the African continent.
