The funding, managed by the Lenfest Institute, includes $5 million allocated for fellowships and $5 million in credits for OpenAI and Azure products. Each organization will receive $2.5 million in cash and $2.5 million in software credits to experiment with AI tools. The first round of funding will support five U.S. metro news organizations: Newsday, The Minnesota Star Tribune, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Chicago Public Media, and The Seattle Times. This collaborative effort seeks to embed AI experts within these newsrooms to develop projects focused on improving business sustainability and implementing AI technologies.
