Elon Musk’s artificial-intelligence venture xAI has made its image and video generation service, Grok Imagine, free to use worldwide for a limited period. The promotion covers both iOS and Android apps, removing the subscription paywall that had applied since the tool’s launch in April. The move follows xAI’s decision earlier this week to open access to its Grok 4 language model and comes as the company prepares a planned upgrade, Grok 5, later this year. Musk did not specify how long the free window will last, but said users will retain only a finite number of daily queries unless they opt for a paid plan. By temporarily waiving fees, xAI is seeking to expand Grok Imagine’s user base and gather feedback as it races rivals such as OpenAI and Google to commercialize generative-AI services.
