OpenAI has released a major update to the Advanced Voice Mode in ChatGPT, now available globally to all paid users across platforms. The update introduces significant enhancements in speech naturalness, including subtler intonation, realistic cadence with pauses and emphasis, and improved expressiveness for emotions such as empathy and sarcasm. The upgraded voice mode also adds intuitive and effective real-time language translation. Users can ask ChatGPT to act as an interpreter, and it will translate conversations continuously until instructed to stop or switch languages. This feature enables seamless multilingual interactions for travel, business, and daily communication. Users can activate the improved voice mode by tapping the Voice icon in the ChatGPT app. Despite the improvements, OpenAI notes that minor audio quality issues may persist, such as unexpected variations in tone and pitch, and occasional 'hallucinations' like unintended sounds, ads, gibberish, or background music. These issues are more noticeable with certain voice options, and the company is working to address these limitations in future updates. The enhancements to Advanced Voice Mode are now live for all paid ChatGPT users.
