Apple is deliberately slowing the release of immersive video it shot for the Vision Pro, leaving early buyers of the $3,499 headset with a sparse catalog, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports. Series such as “Wild Life” and “Adventure” have only a handful of episodes, and older 2024 sports clips still dominate the service. The company has produced additional high-resolution footage but is withholding it because of the high cost of programming and the headset’s modest uptake—fewer than one million units are estimated to have been sold. Executives also fear that a full library released now could appear dated by the time a lighter, cheaper Vision Pro model is expected to arrive in 2027. Apple’s cautious content strategy comes as rivals press their advantage on price. Meta Platforms plans to unveil its first smart glasses with an embedded display, codenamed “Hypernova,” in September starting at about $800—well below earlier expectations of more than $1,000 and less than one-quarter of Vision Pro’s sticker price. Meta is accepting slimmer margins in an effort to build demand. Analysts say Apple’s measured approach risks conceding ground in the nascent wearable-computing market to lower-priced devices from Meta, Samsung and other manufacturers preparing their own releases.

Meta’s first smart glasses with a display coming in September will now be priced from $800. They were originally expected to be $1000+. The change stems in part from the company accepting lower margins to boost demand — a common tactic for new products. https://t.co/rgkZsDDEek
