Meta Platforms plans to unveil its first smart glasses with an integrated display next month, pricing the device at about $800—significantly below the more than $1,000 price tag previously anticipated, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The eyewear, internally code-named “Hypernova” and also referred to as “Celeste,” features a monocular display in the right lens for notifications and lightweight apps. It will be paired with an sEMG wristband that interprets subtle hand movements, and is expected to run a customised version of Android. Meta has chosen to accept thinner profit margins on the product to spur demand and establish an early foothold in consumer augmented-reality hardware before rivals such as Apple and Samsung introduce competing devices. The company is expected to detail the glasses at its Meta Connect conference on 17 September, with initial shipments targeted for October.
Regular Oakley Meta HSTN glasses can now be preordered, and will ship next week. Starting at $400, they have longer battery life than Ray-Ban Meta and record 3K video. Details here: https://t.co/V9aBlmCGtM https://t.co/qvcPyxDpeO
