Meta is preparing to launch its first consumer smart glasses with an integrated display and gesture-control wristband, internally codenamed Hypernova, at its annual Connect conference in September 2025. The augmented reality (AR) glasses are expected to enter mass production in the third quarter of 2025, with a projected product lifecycle of two years. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimates total shipments to be between 150,000 and 200,000 units over this period, indicating a modest sales target and positioning Hypernova as more of an experimental device rather than a mainstream product. The glasses will feature artificial intelligence as a key selling point and are priced around $800. Despite the advanced features, the anticipated sales volume is far below that of Meta's existing Ray-Ban smart glasses. The launch aims to beat competitors like Apple to market, although the market share impact is expected to be minimal. Alongside Hypernova, Meta will introduce a revolutionary wristband designed to control the glasses through gesture inputs.
