Argentine forward Maxi Salas publicly detailed the reasons for his transfer from Racing Club to River Plate, issuing a statement that sharply criticises Racing’s leadership, including former sporting director Diego Milito. Salas said club officials repeatedly rejected requests from his agent to update his salary and then released “false information” suggesting he had reneged on a promise to stay. Salas claimed he arrived at Racing on a free transfer and remained on the original contract he signed at that time, receiving “nothing extra” despite his performances. He insisted he never gave Racing a verbal commitment, adding that he chose to leave “out of dignity” after what he described as months of poor treatment by the board. Milito had earlier stated that Salas “disappointed” the club with his decision to join River. Racing have not issued a formal response to the player’s allegations. The dispute adds friction between the two Argentine giants as the domestic season approaches.
