Vélez Sarsfield claimed the 2025 Supercopa Internacional on Tuesday night, defeating Estudiantes de La Plata 2–0 at Independiente’s Libertadores de América stadium in Avellaneda. A dense blanket of fog shrouded the pitch for most of the match and briefly threatened to interrupt play, but officials allowed the contest to continue. Midfielder Tomás Galván broke the deadlock seven minutes after the interval with his first goal for the club, and forward Braian Romero doubled the lead in the 74th minute. Estudiantes’ hopes faded further when forward Cetré was sent off in stoppage time for a late challenge. The victory delivers Vélez its first trophy under recently appointed manager Guillermo Barros Schelotto and lifts the club’s overall haul to 18 major domestic titles, including two national cups. The Supercopa Internacional, now in its third edition, has produced three different champions: Racing, Talleres and, for 2025, Vélez.
