Malaysian authorities have intensified their crackdown on illegal Bitcoin mining operations by destroying 985 mining rigs valued at approximately $452,500 in the Perak District. This action is part of a broader effort to combat power theft, which has resulted in the illegal siphoning of $777 million worth of electricity since 2018. The crackdown has led to seven arrests, highlighting the serious nature of the issue in Southeast Asia, where cheap electricity has been exploited by crypto miners. The destruction of the rigs sends a strong message to those involved in illicit mining activities.
