A recent survey by CDNetworks revealed critical gaps in cybersecurity preparedness among enterprises in the region, with 59% of Asia/Pacific enterprises targeted by ransomware in 2023. RansomHub, a prominent ransomware gang, has compromised data from over 210 victims across critical sectors in just six months, employing double extortion and intermittent encryption tactics. RansomHub recruits high-profile affiliates from LockBit and ALPHV. Additionally, the emergence of a new ransomware variant, Cicada3301, which targets Windows and Linux systems, has been linked to the BlackCat group. This information was reported by Dark Reading and further analyzed by Morphisec. Halliburton, a major energy company, confirmed a cyberattack in August, resulting in data theft and significant expenses.
