Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has intensified its efforts to combat online scams, including the fast-growing 'pig butchering' fraud. Over the past two years, the company has removed more than two million accounts linked to scam operations, including millions removed this year. These scams, often originating in Southeast Asia and the United Arab Emirates, involve fraudulent investment schemes and exploit advanced technologies to deceive users. The Australian government has initiated a probe into Meta's handling of these issues. Other schemes include fake 'MetaCoin' promotions using AI-generated images and 'free Bitcoin' giveaways that link to malicious sites.
