Indie studio Team Cherry has confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong, the long-awaited sequel to its 2017 hit Metroidvania, will launch worldwide on 4 September 2025. The title will arrive simultaneously on Nintendo Switch and the forthcoming Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X|S and One, and PC, and will be included with Xbox Game Pass on day one. The release date was unveiled during a short “special announcement” livestream aligned with Gamescom’s Opening Night Live. The new trailer, which drew more than 200,000 concurrent viewers on YouTube, featured roughly 30 seconds of fresh gameplay before confirming the shipping schedule. Attendees in Cologne are also able to play the same demo that first appeared in 2019. According to the footage, Silksong will pit protagonist Hornet against more than 200 enemy types and 40 bosses in an expanded kingdom. Studio co-founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen said in media interviews that the game’s scope—and the team’s decision to remain small—extended development to seven years, but insisted progress was steady throughout. They added that “ambitious” post-launch content is already planned. The original Hollow Knight has sold about 15 million copies, giving the Australian studio financial latitude to allow Silksong to grow from a planned DLC expansion into a full sequel. With a firm launch date now in place, one of the industry’s most protracted waiting games appears to be nearing its end.
