Ford Motor Co. is recalling roughly 499,000 sport-utility vehicles in the United States after regulators warned that a ruptured rear brake hose could leak fluid and increase stopping distances. The campaign, disclosed on Thursday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, covers 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX models. The agency estimates about 1% of the vehicles carry the defect. Ford said it has received 64 warranty claims and 16 customer complaints but no reports of crashes or injuries. The automaker will begin mailing notification letters to owners on Sept. 8 and expects to have a repair available in April 2026. Dealers will replace the brake hose free of charge. The action extends a string of safety campaigns for Ford, which has issued 105 recalls so far this year, including separate notices covering more than 213,000 vehicles for faulty tail lights and about 100,900 vehicles for potential air-bag tears.
