
Ford Motor Co. reported stronger-than-expected earnings for the fourth quarter of 2024, with adjusted earnings per share of $0.39 surpassing analysts’ expectations of $0.32. The automaker's revenue increased to $48.2 billion, exceeding forecasts of $43.02 billion, and up by $2.2 billion from the same period in 2023. Ford's net income for the quarter reached $1.8 billion, compared to a net loss in the previous year. The company's total revenue for the year reached an all-time high. Ford's operating cash flow in the fourth quarter was $3.0 billion, below analyst estimates of $3.68 billion. The company reported adjusted earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of $2.1 billion for the quarter, slightly ahead of the $1.99 billion estimated by analysts. However, the company issued a weaker outlook for 2025, forecasting adjusted EBIT of $7.0 billion to $8.5 billion, below analyst estimates of $8.57 billion, and adjusted free cash flow of $3.5 billion to $4.5 billion. Ford also projected continued significant losses in its electric vehicle (EV) division, with losses of up to $5.5 billion expected in 2025, similar to the $5.1 billion loss reported in 2024. The EV unit reported an EBIT margin of negative 98.1% in the fourth quarter of 2024, losing approximately $37,000 per EV sold during that period, and EV revenue was down 35% year-over-year. Ford warned that potential tariffs could have a devastating impact on the auto industry, potentially costing billions and leading to significant job losses. Shares of Ford fell more than 5% after the company announced its earnings and guidance.
