The University of Wyoming has announced the establishment of the Bitcoin Research Institute (BRI), set to launch in August 2024. The BRI aims to produce high-quality peer-reviewed publications on Bitcoin from various academic disciplines, including philosophy, economics, and interdisciplinary courses. The initiative is expected to empower academics, journalists, policymakers, and the public with comprehensive Bitcoin research. Bradley Rettler will direct the institute, emphasizing the need for rigorous studies to guide public understanding and policy. Cynthia Lummis, a prominent supporter, has praised the initiative. The announcement was made at the Bitcoin 2024 conference, marking the first of its kind.
