The Central Bank of Brazil has announced new measures aimed at enhancing the security of the Pix payment system, which is in its sixth year of operation. These changes include the potential suspension of approximately eight million Pix keys associated with irregular CPF and CNPJ registrations with the Receita Federal. The president of the Central Bank, Gabriel Galípolo, emphasized that the objective of these updates is to protect users from fraud and organized crime. Financial institutions will have a month to review and eliminate these irregular registrations to comply with the new regulations. Institutions that fail to adhere to these requirements may face fines starting at R$ 50,000. The Central Bank has also expressed concerns about the spread of misinformation regarding the Pix system and is considering legal measures against such disinformation. The changes are not intended to limit the use of Pix but rather to combat fraud effectively, as stated by Galípolo.
