Hapvida, Brazil's largest healthcare operator, reported a significant increase in its adjusted net profit for the fourth quarter of 2024, nearly doubling from the previous year to R$514.7 million. This figure surpassed market expectations of R$445.2 million. The growth was driven by a 7.8% increase in net revenue to R$7.47 billion, with health plans contributing a 9% rise and dental plans a 6.6% increase, despite a 17.5% drop in medical-hospital services revenue. Hapvida's CEO, Jorge Pinheiro, highlighted the company's strategic focus on operational efficiency and cost management, noting that the company is closing a 'historic period'. The company also reported a reduction in its cash loss ratio to 67.9% in the fourth quarter, down from 69.3% in the same period of the previous year. This improvement reflects Hapvida's efforts in operational efficiency. Additionally, Hapvida corrected its accounting methods from 2016 to 2023, which positively impacted its 2024 net equity by 503 million reais ($89 million). Hapvida's EBITDA for the quarter was R$1 billion, a 19.4% increase from the previous year. In contrast, PetroReconcavo, a Brazilian oil and gas company, reported a significant decline in its net profit for the fourth quarter of 2024, falling 83% to R$32.4 million compared to the same period in 2023. Despite this, the company's annual net revenue for 2024 increased by 16% to R$3.264 billion. The drop in quarterly profit was attributed to financial results, with a negative financial outcome of R$257.2 million, largely due to foreign exchange variations on liabilities denominated in foreign currency. PetroReconcavo's CEO, José Firmo, stated that the company is committed to resuming growth in 2025, focusing on operational resilience and infrastructure improvements. The company's EBITDA for the quarter was R$403 million, a 29% increase from the previous year.
