Cybercrime is on the rise globally, with numerous instances of scams and impersonations reported. In India, approximately 7,000 cyber-related complaints are registered daily on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), and over Rs 7,000 crores have been lost to cybercrime in the past four months. The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre and the Department of Telecommunications are collaborating to block overseas spoof calls. Prominent UK journalist Allison Pearson's X account, with 150k followers, was hacked and used for impersonation. Additionally, there have been multiple incidents of individuals impersonating Hashed team members. In Bengaluru, a scam involving a fake cop demanding a traffic fine led to the arrest of cybercrooks, as exposed in a report by TOI. Authorities, including the FBI and HSI, are actively working to combat these scams and protect the public.
