A 41-year-old Ethiopian asylum seeker has appeared in a U.K. Crown Court accused of attempting to sexually assault a 14-year-old girl just eight days after arriving in the country, according to evidence presented by prosecutor Stuart Cowen. The prosecution told the court that the defendant, who was living at the Bell Hotel, an asylum accommodation facility, tried to kiss the teenager and invited her back to the hotel after she offered him a slice of pizza. He also allegedly said he wanted to have a baby with her. The court was told the man had recently entered the United Kingdom as part of the government’s asylum programme. The hearing is continuing and no plea has yet been recorded.
