HSBC has been fined £6.2 million by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for failing to fairly look after more than 1.5 million UK customers experiencing financial hardship. The bank warned customers that it would be difficult to recover their money and highlighted that accounts with over £1,800 could be emptied. The FCA's fine comes as a result of HSBC's mishandling of customers in financial difficulty, putting them at risk. Additionally, HSBC was fined $8 million for similar failures.
