Newcastle United has signed 24-year-old winger Jacob Ramsey from Premier League rival Aston Villa. The two clubs agreed a fee of just over €45 million, according to multiple reports, while sources close to the negotiations in England put the price at more than £40 million. Ramsey, who came through Aston Villa’s academy and made his Champions League debut last season, has committed to what the club described as a long-term contract at St James’ Park. In an introductory video released by Newcastle, the player said he was “happy and proud” to join the Magpies and looked forward to creating better memories at the stadium where he has previously struggled as a visiting player. The move represents Newcastle’s largest outlay of the current transfer window and gives manager Eddie Howe additional wide options as the club seeks to consolidate its place in the Premier League’s top tier and return to European competition.
