A significant cybercrime operation involving a network of fake websites, which tricked nearly half a million people into surrendering their card details, has been dismantled by police. The scam, described as Britain's largest phishing website, led to the arrest of dozens, including university students. The fraudulent network, originating in the UK, affected 70,000 victims in the UK alone, costing them tens of millions of pounds. Globally, the operation compromised the personal details of 94,000 individuals, with five Australians also arrested in connection to the industrial-scale fraud. Authorities have contacted thousands of victims following the takedown of the scammer site.
