British local councils and major institutions are facing increasing cyber threats, with ransomware attacks causing severe disruption. Redcar & Cleveland Council was recently held to ransom by a dangerous cybercriminal gang, highlighting the vulnerability of public sector organizations. The NHS supplier Synnovis was targeted last year by the ransomware group Qilin, which has vowed to continue its attacks. Scottish councils have also experienced breaches, leading to widespread operational chaos. The escalating cyber threat extends beyond the public sector, with NatWest reporting it faces 100 million cyber attacks every month. The bank's chief executive has expressed deep concern over these persistent threats, stating they cause sleepless nights. This situation underscores the growing challenge of cybersecurity for both public and private sectors in the UK.
