The UK government has launched the Safer Streets Summer campaign to address rising anti-social behaviour and retail crime across England and Wales. Over 500 towns will benefit from increased police patrols aimed at making town centres and high streets safer. The campaign responds to a record increase in shoplifting and other street crimes. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper emphasized the need for more officers on the streets to deter offenders. Local leaders, including London Mayor Sadiq Khan and Portsmouth MP Stephen Morgan, have pledged support for the initiative. Khan announced a policing blitz targeting London’s 20 most affected town centres, working in collaboration with the Metropolitan Police, local partners, and community groups to improve safety. In the North East, 28 towns will also see enhanced police presence as part of the nationwide effort.
