Amazon.com said it will issue new employment offers to Whole Foods Market’s U.S. corporate employees on 10 Nov., moving the grocer’s staff onto the same pay structure and benefit programs as Amazon’s other corporate workers. Whole Foods employees will have about a month to review their new titles, salaries and benefits before the changes take effect. Under the plan, Whole Foods employees will retain their existing in-store grocery discount until the integration is completed, which the company expects by December 2026. They will also receive a 10% discount on Amazon merchandise and access to the e-commerce giant’s employee deals portal, which covers items such as phone plans, car insurance and travel. Amazon said the move will streamline collaboration across its grocery banners, including Amazon Fresh and cashier-less Amazon Go stores, as it competes more directly with Walmart, Kroger and Instacart. The company has committed more than $4 billion to expand its U.S. delivery network by 2026. Amazon bought Whole Foods for $13.7 billion in 2017 and has been working since then to unify its grocery operations.
