As part of its rebrand, Cracker Barrel changed its famous peg game. Instead of calling the loser an “ig-no-ra-moose,” it now says: “No reason to be embarrassed.” Follow: @AFpost https://t.co/8bxMVHOWAq
BREAKING: Cracker Barrel has now changed the wording on the back of their well-known peg game, saying it contained “offensive language.” https://t.co/dWFA6Q1lAU
Cracker Barrel Old Country Store has rewritten the instructions printed on the back of its wooden peg game, a fixture on restaurant tables for decades, as part of a wider brand refresh rolled out this month. The previous version ribbed poor performers with lines such as “you’re just plain dumb” or “ig-no-ra-moose.” Boards now tell players who leave three or more pegs, “Don’t be embarrassed, try again,” softening the tone and, in at least one early printing, misspelling “embarrassed.” The wording change follows the chain’s decision on 19 Aug to drop its Old-Timer logo in favour of a minimalist text-only design and to declutter store interiors. While the company says the rules and “fun remain completely unchanged,” conservative commentators and some customers accuse Cracker Barrel of succumbing to political correctness, likening the move to other high-profile corporate culture clashes. A company spokesperson said the game “is still the same peg game our guests have known and loved for years,” adding that management “could’ve done a better job sharing who we are and who we’ll always be” after the rebrand ignited criticism online.
