Subway has appointed Jonathan Fitzpatrick as chief executive officer, effective July 28. Fitzpatrick previously led automotive-services group Driven Brands and earlier held senior roles at Burger King, giving the 59-year-old executive extensive franchising and turnaround experience. He will become the chain’s first permanent CEO since December, when an interim leadership arrangement began following the completion of Subway’s sale to private-equity firm Roark Capital. The new owner is counting on Fitzpatrick to reinvigorate domestic performance and accelerate international expansion after the company’s U.S. systemwide sales slipped 3% last year to $9.5 billion.
