In a series of significant law enforcement actions across Canada, particularly in British Columbia, authorities have seized millions of dollars worth of illegal substances and contraband. Surrey, B.C., has been identified as a hotspot for cryptocurrency scams, with police reporting $12M stolen in 2023. The RCMP has highlighted the diversion of 'safe supply' drugs, intended to combat the opioid crisis, by organized crime groups for sale across the country. This includes thousands of diverted pills seized in a major drug bust. Additionally, significant quantities of illegal cigarettes and drugs, including 22,000 fentanyl pills, 13 pounds of marijuana, and pounds of meth and guns, along with 27 tonnes of illegal cigarettes valued at $24M, have been confiscated in various busts. These operations underscore the challenges and complexities of combating organized crime and drug trafficking in the region.
