Authorities worldwide are issuing warnings about a surge in scams targeting individuals through various channels, including WhatsApp, phone calls, and text messages. WhatsApp users are being cautioned about fraudulent job offers, identity theft, malicious applications, and a Christmas party scam that can lead to account suspension and data loss. In Toronto, police have reported an increase in taxi scams involving fake debit terminals and telephone scams impersonating police officers. Savannah Police have also issued a warning about scams in their area. The IRS has raised concerns about rising gift card scams during the holiday season. Experts emphasize that while end-to-end encryption on platforms like WhatsApp protects message privacy, it does not safeguard users from scams.
