In response to heightened wildfire risks, the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia have implemented bans on outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing in forested areas. New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt emphasized that the restrictions aim to protect residents from injury and to prevent emergency services from being overwhelmed. Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston echoed the concerns, allowing beach access but prohibiting bonfires. The Democracy Fund criticized these bans as irrational, while enforcement challenges were noted in Newfoundland and Labrador. The rationale for the bans has shifted over time, initially citing fire risks from human activity, then concerns about potential injuries and emergency response capacity, and more recently the sudden spread of fires. Nova Scotia faces additional challenges with arsonists reportedly increasing wildfire threats. Controversially, the province has been spraying thousands of acres of forest with glyphosate-based herbicides, such as Bayer's Vision Max, during drought conditions, raising health and environmental concerns. This spraying has been described as secretive, with permits labeled under pesticides rather than herbicides. Nova Scotia MP Jessica Fancy-Landry has called for increasing fines for violations of these outdoor activity bans, which currently can reach up to $25,000. Critics argue that the bans resemble climate lockdowns and question their true intent, while others highlight inconsistencies and the lingering influence of COVID-19-era policies.
Nova Scotia MP calls for higher fines for violating climate lockdown Nova Scotia residents continue to face sweeping bans on outdoor activities in forested areas, at the risk of $25,000 fines — which, according to MP Jessica Fancy-Landry, are “not high enough” to adequately https://t.co/EJIxAkOT2z
For real Nova Scotia is spraying massive quantities of an herbicide that kills ALL VEGETATION (glyphosate) and pretending its a pesticide on public documents. This might be criminal. Little Timmy gets busted again. https://t.co/Lc78ytIEV3
So Nova Scotia is spraying glyphosate on its forests (herbicide) being VERY secretive about it (you cant click on the permits to get details and they call it pesticide) and MOST of its fires are caused by arson. I am NOT a conspiracy guy.....but WOW!
