An Ontario court has ruled that lawsuits filed by several school boards against social media companies can proceed. The court dismissed motions from platforms including Snapchat, TikTok, and Meta, which sought to halt the $8 billion lawsuits. The school boards allege that these platforms disrupt student learning and have negatively impacted students' academic performance and mental health. Additionally, the Ontario Court of Appeal has allowed a separate class action lawsuit seeking $290 million in damages against participants of the 2022 Freedom Convoy protest in Ottawa to move forward, dismissing appeals from the defendants involved in that case.
