Richard Sterritt, a Canadian salesman involved in a large-scale investment fraud based in Toronto, has been convicted in the United States. The case involved a nationwide fraud conspiracy, with Sterritt identified as a ringleader who misled investors by exploiting their interest in emerging technologies. United States Attorney Nocella stated that Sterritt and his co-conspirators, including Dwayne Golden, deceived investors and misappropriated funds, spending the money on luxury cars, high-end travel, and expensive goods. Additionally, the defendants lied to the Department of Energy about employing undocumented workers and failed to compensate those workers properly, thereby profiting at the expense of New York City. Sterritt, an ex-NASA scientist aged 85, admitted to defrauding investors and was extradited to the U.S. to face charges.
(1/3) “Dwayne Golden and his co-conspirators took advantage of investor interest in exciting new technologies to perpetrate a fraud scheme that is as old as time, and to make millions of dollars for themselves in the process,” stated United States Attorney Nocella.
(1/2) “For years, Richard Sterritt preyed on unsuspecting investors and betrayed their trust by spending their money on expensive cars, luxury goods, and high-end travel,” stated United States Attorney Nocella.
