Toronto police announced the results of Project Disrupt, a SIM swap fraud investigation, on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at TPS Headquarters, 40 College Street. The investigation led to the arrest of 10 suspects and more than 100 charges being laid. The fraud impacted approximately 1,500 cell phone accounts, resulting in a combined loss of over $1 million to individual victims, telecom companies, and financial institutions. The investigation was conducted in partnership with the Co-ordinated Cyber Centre.
