TTI Outdoor Power Equipment is recalling about 780,000 Ryobi-branded electric pressure washers sold in the United States and Canada because a faulty capacitor can overheat and burst, projecting parts at users and bystanders. A notice posted Thursday by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says the company has logged 135 reports of overheating in the United States, including 41 explosions that caused 32 injuries ranging from finger and hand fractures to facial and eye damage. Health Canada said no injuries have been reported domestically. The recall covers models RY142300 and RY142711VNM. Roughly 764,000 of the machines were sold in the United States through Home Depot and Direct Tools Factory Outlet between July 2017 and June 2024, with another 16,000 distributed in Canada. The units retailed for about $300 to $400. Consumers are advised to stop using the pressure washers immediately and visit Ryobi’s recall website to obtain a free repair kit that includes a replacement capacitor. TTI, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-listed Techtronic Industries, has issued several other safety recalls this year involving Ryobi lawn-care equipment.
