West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell will retire from international cricket after the first two Twenty20 Internationals against Australia at Sabina Park, Jamaica, which begin on 20 July. The 37-year-old has been named in a 16-man squad for the opening matches of the five-game series but will step away before the tour moves on. Russell’s departure ends a 15-year international career highlighted by West Indies’ T20 World Cup triumphs in 2012 and 2016. Since switching his focus exclusively to the shortest format in 2019, he has amassed 1,078 runs at a strike rate exceeding 150 and claimed 61 wickets in 84 T20Is, while also becoming one of the most in-demand players on the global franchise circuit. His retirement comes less than a year before the 2026 T20 World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, and follows recent exits by several senior West Indies players. The Jamaica-born all-rounder is expected to continue playing domestic T20 leagues worldwide.
