Actor Frank Grillo, who plays Rick Flag Sr. in James Gunn’s revamped DC Universe, said in a GQ interview that Marvel’s 2014 thriller “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” remains the best film to emerge from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Winter Soldier is the best Marvel movie,” Grillo said, adding that he hopes Marvel can “get back to the glory of where they were and not just be spectacles that are there to make a lot of money from.” The film, in which Grillo appeared as the villain Crossbones, grossed about $714 million worldwide and holds a 90 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Grillo also revealed that Gunn has earmarked him for an unspecified “big” DC project beyond his current roles in Creature Commandos, Superman and the forthcoming second season of HBO Max’s Peacemaker. “We got something big—and you’re all over it,” Gunn told him at a recent after-party, according to the actor. Grillo said he intends to accept whatever part Gunn offers, underscoring the close collaboration between the pair as DC Studios builds out its new interconnected slate.
