Rogers Communications reported mixed first-quarter results with an adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $1.04, surpassing analyst estimates of $1.01, and revenue of $3.92 billion, exceeding the expected $3.47 billion. The company reaffirmed its outlook despite competitive pricing pressures impacting its cable business. Rogers also added more postpaid wireless subscribers than anticipated. Meanwhile, Teck Resources saw its first-quarter profit boosted by commodity prices and increased copper sales volumes. The company reported a 7% rise in copper production to 106,100 tonnes, although production at its QB mine was slightly lower year-over-year due to operational challenges including an extended shutdown, a national power outage in Chile, and adverse weather conditions. Teck plans to extend maintenance shutdowns at QB in the second and third quarters to advance tailings management facility development but maintained its 2025 annual production guidance for copper (490,000-565,000 tonnes), zinc (525,000-575,000 tonnes), and refined zinc (190,000-230,000 tonnes), with QB copper and molybdenum production guidance at the lower end of the range. Anglo American reported a decline in first-quarter copper production to 168,900 tonnes from 198,000 tonnes the previous year, with higher output in Peru offset by a planned 15% reduction in Chile. Its manganese ore production fell 60% to 317,000 tonnes due to a temporary suspension of Australian operations following cyclone damage, with exports expected to resume in the second quarter. Freeport-McMoRan announced plans to resume startup activities at its new copper smelter in Indonesia in the second quarter, aiming for full ramp-up by year-end after repairs to the Manyar smelter following an October fire near completion.
Anglo American's #manganese ore production was -60% in Q1 to 317,000 tonnes, primarily due to the ongoing temporary suspension of the Australian operations following the damage caused by a tropical cyclone in March 2024. Export sales are expected to resume in Q2.
Anglo American says Q1 #copper production was 168,900 tonnes vs 198,000 tonnes yoy, with higher production from Peru as a result of higher grades offset by a planned -15% drop in output in Chile
