In a significant wave of layoffs that has swept through the tech industry in March 2024, several companies have announced job cuts, affecting thousands of employees. MacroEdge Research reported a total of 63,672 job cuts for the month. Notably, ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, announced a reduction of 1,000 jobs in its workplace collaboration unit, Feishu, also known as Lark, in an effort to enhance competitiveness and focus. The CEO of Lark decided to reduce 20% of the staff and Xie Xin communicated these organizational adjustments and downsizing in a letter to all employees. Additionally, a tech giant, which had previously fired 6650 employees in 2023, along with other major tech companies, including Apple, Dell, and IBM, have also initiated layoffs, contributing to the overall figures reported. This trend follows changes in work-from-home policies and aims to improve efficiency and competitiveness among tech giants.
