China’s State Council has issued new guidelines aimed at accelerating the country’s “AI+” initiative, state-run Xinhua reported on 26 August. The blueprint calls for stepped-up development of domestic artificial-intelligence chips, software ecosystems and ultra-large-scale computing clusters, alongside broader deployment of AI in products such as autonomous vehicles, industrial robots and consumer electronics. Beijing wants more than 70 percent adoption of AI in key applications by 2027 and over 90 percent penetration by 2030, according to the document. To reach those milestones, the government pledged stronger fiscal and financial support for qualifying companies and promised measures to expand data resources and open computing infrastructure. The guidelines underscore China’s effort to cut reliance on foreign technology and to use artificial intelligence as a driver of productivity and economic growth, even as the sector faces tighter U.S. export controls on advanced semiconductors.
