Chinese President Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng Liyuan received Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk in Beijing on Tuesday, according to state media. Xi welcomed the Cambodian royals’ participation in forthcoming events marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. He recalled his state visit to Cambodia in April and said the two nations had forged an “ironclad” friendship that has endured geopolitical shifts. Calling for deeper solidarity, Xi said China firmly backs Cambodia’s chosen development path and aims to accelerate work on what both sides describe as an all-weather China-Cambodia community with a shared future. The Cambodian monarch reiterated his country’s strategic commitment to the relationship and its intention to expand cooperation.
