The Boston area is experiencing its third heat wave of the summer, with high pressure and southerly air flow maintaining hot and humid conditions through midweek. Temperatures are forecasted to reach the low to mid-90s Fahrenheit inland, while coastal areas remain cooler due to sea breezes. Boston has declared a heat emergency from Monday through Wednesday. Humidity levels are expected to increase midweek, with dew points peaking around 70 degrees on Thursday. A slow-moving cold front is anticipated to bring scattered, hit-or-miss thunderstorms primarily on Thursday afternoon, which will help break the heat and reduce humidity by Friday. Despite the cooler and drier air arriving late in the week, temperatures will remain warm. Air quality alerts for ground-level ozone have been issued due to the heat and humidity. Pollen levels are also expected to be high during this period. The heat is predicted to briefly return on Sunday before trending cooler next week. Along the South Coast, conditions include fog in the morning, a mix of sun and clouds in the afternoon, low rip current risk, and above-average water temperatures.
