Miguel Uribe Londoño, father of the late Colombian senator and presidential pre-candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay, has officially announced his own pre-candidacy for the presidency representing the right-wing Centro Democrático party. This follows the assassination of Miguel Uribe Turbay earlier in 2025, who was shot during a political rally and died after two months in critical condition. Miguel Uribe Londoño stated his intention to continue his son's legacy and combat injustices, referencing the violent deaths in his family, including that of his first wife, journalist Diana Turbay, in 1991. The Colombian government has since increased security measures for presidential candidates ahead of the 2026 elections. Additionally, the young assailant responsible for the killing of Miguel Uribe Turbay was sentenced to seven years in a specialized detention center.
