In 2025, Apple Inc. ($AAPL) has emerged as the worst-performing stock among the so-called Magnificent Seven Big Tech companies, with a year-to-date decline of 22%. Other members of this group include Nvidia ($NVDA), Microsoft ($MSFT), Meta Platforms ($META), Amazon ($AMZN), Alphabet ($GOOGL), and Tesla ($TSLA). Despite Nvidia's $NVDA Data Center segment growing from under $10 billion in 2020 to $100 billion in 2024, Nvidia's stock remains down 2.2% year-to-date. Microsoft and Meta have posted gains of 6.8% and 7.1%, respectively, while Amazon, Alphabet, Tesla, and Apple have experienced declines of 8.4%, 11%, 16%, and 22%. Nvidia's growth has been driven largely by Big Tech’s spending on its AI chips, with Microsoft as its largest customer, followed by Meta, Amazon, and Alphabet. Projections for the next five years indicate Nvidia leading with a 189% sales growth, followed by Tesla at 107%, Microsoft at 101%, and Meta at 79%, while Apple is forecasted to grow by 28%. Nvidia has also been a major contributor to the S&P 500 gains since November 2022. However, Nvidia faces challenges including trade and demand concerns, with its AI business expanding more in Europe as revenue from China falters. Overall, the Magnificent Seven exhibit varied performance in 2025, with Apple notably underperforming relative to its peers.
