
Bank of America reported first-quarter 2025 earnings that exceeded analysts' expectations. The bank posted net income of $7.4 billion, or $0.90 per share, up 8.43% year-over-year, with revenue net of interest expense reaching $27.4 billion, a 5.91% increase from the prior year. Net interest income rose 3% to $14.4 billion. Trading revenue increased 11% to $5.7 billion, with equities trading revenue rising 17% to a record $2.2 billion and fixed income, currencies, and commodities trading revenue up 8% to $3.5 billion. Overall trading revenue was up 9%. The provision for credit losses was $1.5 billion, up from $1.3 billion a year earlier but slightly below market expectations. The bank's CET1 capital ratio was 11.8%. Total deposits reached $1.99 trillion, while average loans and leases rose 4% to $1.09 trillion. Bank of America maintained its net interest income forecast for the fourth quarter at $15.5 billion to $15.7 billion. Investment banking revenue declined 3% to $1.5 billion, while wealth and investment management revenue increased 8% to $6 billion. The company returned $6.5 billion to shareholders, including $2 billion in dividends and $4.5 billion in share buybacks. Book value per share was $36.39, and tangible book value per share was $27.13. Return on equity was 10.4% and return on tangible equity was 13.9%. Shares of Bank of America rose 2.2% to $37.25 in premarket trading, and climbed over 4% after the results.
