Hertz Global Holdings posted its first quarter of positive adjusted EBITDA in nearly two years, helped by a more than 50% cut in vehicle depreciation. The car-rental company reported a second-quarter non-GAAP loss of $0.34 a share, narrower than analysts’ estimates, on revenue of $2.19 billion. Net loss narrowed to $294 million, and vehicle utilisation improved to 83%. The stock jumped roughly 16% in pre-market trading on 7 August after the earnings beat. AMC Entertainment returned to breakeven in the June quarter, reporting earnings of $0.00 a share versus a forecast loss of about $0.04. Revenue climbed 35.6% from a year earlier to $1.40 billion as attendance rose 26% to 62.8 million patrons and per-patron spending hit fresh records. Adjusted EBITDA surged to $189.2 million from $38.5 million a year ago, and the cinema chain said it has refinanced all 2026 debt maturities out to 2029. The results sent the heavily watched meme stock higher in early trading. Sphere Entertainment swung to a surprise profit, earning $3.39 a share compared with an expected loss, aided by a $346.1 million gain from restructuring MSG Networks’ credit facility. Quarterly revenue rose 3% to $282.7 million, with the Sphere venue generating $175.6 million, up 16% year-on-year. The trio of better-than-expected reports underscores continued improvement across the travel and live-entertainment industries, as companies focus on cost controls while demand for mobility, movies and concerts remains resilient.
