IonQ Inc. reported second-quarter revenue of $20.7 million, topping analysts’ $17.2 million estimate and rising 47% from a year earlier. The quantum-computing company’s losses widened, posting a net loss of $177.5 million, or $0.70 a share, compared with consensus expectations for a $0.20 loss. Operating loss reached $160.6 million. The Maryland-based firm strengthened its balance sheet with a $1 billion equity offering completed in July, lifting pro-forma cash, cash equivalents and investments to about $1.6 billion. It also unveiled a $1.075 billion agreement to acquire U.K. start-up Oxford Ionics, aiming to accelerate its roadmap toward large-scale, ion-trap quantum systems. Earlier in the quarter, IonQ closed deals for photonics specialist Lightsynq and satellite-network operator Capella to bolster quantum networking capabilities. Chief Executive Officer Niccolo de Masi was unanimously appointed chairman, succeeding Peter Chapman, who stepped down from the board. Looking ahead, IonQ forecast full-year 2025 revenue of $82 million to $100 million, with third-quarter sales expected between $25 million and $29 million.
