Aurora Animal Services is searching for an individual suspected of shooting wild rabbits with blow darts in a southeastern neighborhood of the Denver suburb. Since July 15, officials have documented five cases near East Glasgow Place and South White Crow Way—close to the Southlands shopping center—that left four rabbits injured and one dead. Animal Control Officer Lucas Barr said the darts can cause internal bleeding and infections that lead to prolonged suffering. Investigators are treating the incidents as potential animal-cruelty crimes, which in Colorado can bring fines and jail time if a perpetrator is convicted. Authorities are asking anyone with information or evidence to call the city’s animal-control dispatch line at 303-326-8288 and have advised residents not to contact the Aurora Police Department about the matter.
